Minus One is returning for season 2, but it’s moving from ad-driven YouTube to a subscription-driven OTT platform.
On Tuesday, Lionsgate Play announced that production has begun on the second season of the relationship drama Minus One, which will be released exclusively on its platform.
Season 2 of Minus One, written by Sidhanta Mathur and Shubham Yogi, finds Aisha Ahmed and Ayush Mehra back in the lead. The series is produced by Writeous Studios and co-written by Gauri Pandit.
“Minus One” follows a couple who remain together even after a breakup, and how they navigate the trials and tribulations of life, their careers, and what they expect from each other.
Lionsgate said all six episodes of the show’s first season, which debuted on YouTube in 2019, were wildly popular and will hit the platform on August 19.
Rohit Jain, MD, Lionsgate South Asia and Network – Emerging Markets Asia, said Minus One is an entirely new concept that embraces all aspects of modern romance, making it a seemingly relevant show.
“Lionsgate Play has always been committed to creating a fantastic portfolio of premium content for its global and Indian audiences and we are proud to add Season 2 of Minus One to the original library and we hope it will resonate with anyone and everyone,” he added.
Mrinalini Khanna, vice president of originals at Lionsgate, said the show explored themes of love and relationships that were “so different for GenZ.”
“It’s interesting for us to understand the semantics of romance in our day and what it means to live, love and let go to them,” Khanna added.
“Writeous and Shubham have such a unique insight into the couple and their nearly decade-long life together – love, fun, anger and hurt, and the inevitable chaos and memories that come with it.
“With the mutual success of Feels like Home, we knew we wanted to do this with them.”
Mathur, who worked with Lionsgate Play on the 2022 series Feels Like Home, says Minus One is a relatable and entertaining show that perfectly captures a unique friendship through which it tries to bring an ex to The idea of humanizing.
“We’re also excited to announce that we’re filming season 2, and under the direction of Lionsgate Play and especially Mrinalini Khanna, Shubham and I have been able to elevate the story into a more evolved and nuanced relationship drama that will deal with Understand the complexities of relationships through the roles of Varun and Riya.
He added: “We really can’t wait for everyone to watch Minus One Season 2 because it’s a lot of hard work and effort.”
