Ghana has virtually launched a new app called GH COVID 19 Tracker.
On April 13, 2020, Minister of Communications and Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West constituency, Hon Ursula Owusu and vice president of Ghana Dr. Bawumia unveiled the GH COVID-19 Tracker app.
“This app will help both the health, immigration and security services inorder to help curb this deadly pandemic in terms of the health sector. It will aid them to know who the are coming into contact with, their symptoms and how far advanced their conditions are. For the immigration, it will help with enough data including mobile numbers of the affected persons in order to aid the aggressive contact tracing because it seems to be like finding a needle in a hay stock and lastly in terms of the security services, it aids them to be able to create a sense of security in this trying and unnormal times”, Hon Ursula Owusu disclosed.
The Vice President who spoke at the virtual launch revealed that this app is not been used by any nation that has been stroke by this deadly pandemic and also the government of Ghana wants to use science and technology in this fierce fight against this global pandemic.
“This weapon is what we are deploying and Ghana is one of the nation’s that is using such a weapon to curb this disease. If Ghana wants to stop the skyrocketing of the numbers than we have to download the app and this app couldn’t come at any better time and the best way to stop the spread is to stay home and adhere to the preventive measures inorder to stay safe from this deadly pandemic , Covid 19”, the vice president said.
This virtual launch of Ghana’s COVID 19 tracker app was graced by some musicians in the music industry. Some of these musicians are Evang Diana Asamoah, Fancy Gadam, Dada KD, Eduwordzi, Kuami Eugene, Great Ampong, Kaakyire Kwame Appiah, Shatta Wale, and this virtual launch was hosted award-winning presenter Kwame Sefa Kayi.
